With the holiday season in full swing, theatre goers will have plenty of opportunities not only to see some of the biggest classic and long running productions that can bring fans of the theatre and families together, but they can also see a number of special holiday-themed productions as well. One of these productions is the Old Globe’ Grinch. This is the 15th annual production of this San Diego live theatrical show and it will feature talents such as Steve Blanchard, Steve Gunderson and Jason Edward Cook. This musical which features the classic Dr. Seuss tale, over the top costumes and wonderful musical selections will open November 23rd. Tickets are on sale now and those who wish to see the performance live can expect to find show times running through the holiday season. Since production numbers are limited those who want to see the Grinch will want to make sure they get their tickets quickly as they won’t have an opportunity to see the production again until next holiday season.
Meanwhile, while theater fans can go see Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! to hear the tale of the villainous Grinch and his attempt to steal Christmas; theater fans can go see the new production of Elf in order to take a completely different approach to getting in the holiday spirit. The hit production, based off the wildly successful major motion picture, features the story of Buddy the Elf and his attempt to spread Christmas cheer to those in New York City and around the world who have lost sight of the Christmas spirit. This production is also a seasonal play and has now opened on the Broadway stage.
However, those who want to see Elf live this year will be given a special treat. The brilliant minds behind this production announced this week that there would be a new over the top opening number in the production featuring an original song called “Happy All the Time” this is just one of the many additions being included in the 2012-2013 productions of Elf and one of the many ways in which this play is slated to be even more spectacular this holiday season. Those who want to see the newly revamped Elf can get their tickets to the event now; which will run through the New Year.
