The entertainment world was treated to several big announcements this week including a concert tour announcement from the highly successful rock band Yes. This award winning progressive rock group announced this week that they would be hitting the road in 2013 for an upcoming tour event that promises to be one of the most unique of its kind. Instead of taking a more traditional approach to their concert set list, the rock group will be playing through three of their albums in their entirety at each upcoming performance in 2013. This unique approach to their concerts for next year already has fans and critics alike buzzing. Those who are looking to see these unique live performances in person and to catch Yes on tour in 2013 will find the group on the road for most of the year. Tickets to 2013 concerts will go on sale beginning this Friday December 21st.
This week also marks the world premiere of the highly anticipated premier of Amy Herzog’s The Great God Plan. This production will open on December 18th and will follow a month of highly successful and well-reviewed preview performance. This play is set to run through the holiday season for the not-for-profit Playwrights Horizon and will feature the talents of Becky Ann Baker, Peter Friedman, Sarah Goldberg and Jeremy Strong. Tickets for the production are on sale now.
However one of the biggest announcements of the week undoubtedly came from the theatre world with the December 18th premier of the Broadway revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. This major production is one of the most highly anticipated Broadway revivals in recent years as both fans and critics alike have been waiting to see a new revival of this Tennessee Williams 1955 drama. Previews will officially begin this week on December 18th and run until January 17th; the official opening of the production. The production is not only slated to feature one of the most popular dramas ever told but it is also slated to have some of the biggest talent as well. This rendition will feature the work of Tony Award winning director Robert Ashford and the talents of award winning actors Scarlett Johansson and Benjamin Walker in the lead roles. This will be a ‘must see’ production for any theatre fan. Will you be getting tickets to this Broadway preview?
