By David Jacobs | December 13th, 2013

This week, there were several big announcements about upcoming live musical performances that have been unleashed just in time for the holiday season. Now that the holiday season is in full swing, it is time for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in New York City. The 90 minute show features 140 different performers including the Rockettes who will be taking the stage live. The number of shows being held will continue to increase as Christmas gets closer. This is a classic, family-friendly tradition that has been a part of New York City tradition for years. Tickets are on sale now for the show, which will run through December 30th.

New York City is also home to another big holiday production for those who are fans of live ballet. George Balanchine’s magical version of the classic play, The Nutcracker comes to life in an exciting event. This production is a new vision of the Tchaikovsky classic score. This ballet features a levitating tree and stunning costumes, setting and performances. The play is being held at the Kock Theatre at Lincoln Center and will continue shows through January 4th. Tickets for this New York City Ballet Company performance are on sale now for those who want to see all of the action unfold live on stage during the holidays.

However, one of the biggest announcements of the week came from the team behind the A Christmas Story, The Musical. December 12th marks the official opening for this musical event, which will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This musical event is based on the cult classic family holiday movie of the same name. The 1940s story of a middle class Indiana family follows the story of a boy named Ralphie and he wish to get a Red Ryder BB fun for Christmas. The film is being co-produced by Peter Billingsley, the original Ralphie. The production features John Bolton as the “Old Man,” Eli Tokash as “Ralphie” and Erin Dilly, the Tony Award nominated actress in the role of “Mother.” Tickets to see this exciting family-friendly musical production are on sale now. Will you be getting tickets to see A Christmas Story the Musical live this holiday season?
