The Chicago Theater Scene

By David Jacobs | March 11th, 2014

Theater in Chicago has always flourished yet when many think of great theater and Broadway hits they think of New York’s thriving and world-renown theater scene. But steadily, Chicago is making a strong name for itself with its own impressive lineup of shows gracing its growing theater scene. And why shouldn’t it? With the city’s gorgeous and historical theaters, amazing views, great shopping, delectable food, and beautiful hotels, Chicago is the perfect place to wine, dine, and enjoy an incredible show or two. Famous Broadway shows like Wicked, The Lion King, and Book of Mormon have graced Chicago with incredible sold-out performances, leaving viewers begging for more. Below is a list of some of the shows currently performing or coming to Chicago soon.

Chicago Theater Million Dollar Quartet

A powerfully charged musical described as a “smash hit,” this show was inspired by the infamous first and only time musical recording session that took place in 1956 between Jerry Lewis, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Carl Perkins. This show will revive your musical soul. It’s now playing at the Apollo Theater.

Chicagoans Love Their Sports Teams

By David Jacobs | March 10th, 2014

You can take the Chicagoan out of Chicago but you can’t take Chicago out of the Chicagoan. Chicago is one of the greatest cities in the world. There is something about Chicago…something about the heart of the people here. Where that heart comes from is not 100% clear – but this is a city that rebuilt itself from the ground up after the catastrophic Great Chicago Fire – it’s literally been built on perseverance, tradition, and history which is exactly what its sports teams have been built on as well.

When it comes to professional sports teams in Chicago, they may have some of the best fans in the world. Why?

It starts with the love of the city. Chicagoans love their teams because they love their hometown. Los Angeles and New York get all the publicity while Chicago is the “forgotten city.” Inferiority complex? Possibly. But it’s like a badge of honor to be the underdog. It makes it that much sweeter when their sports teams are victorious since others aren’t expecting it.

Chicago Bulls Are On A Roll

By David Jacobs | March 7th, 2014

While the Chicago Bulls season got off to a rough start with the re-injury of star play Derrick Rose, this NBA powerhouse has proven they have the resilience to overcome one of the most devastating injuries in the team’s recent history. In fact, the Chicago Bulls are now the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, behind the Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat and the Atlantic Division leading Toronto Raptors. The Bulls have been dealing with roster issues throughout the season, in addition to the absence of Derrick Rose. At the beginning of 2014, the Bulls were seven games below .500 and the future was looking bleak.

However, the team is on a high note now, with the addition of hot shooter Jimmer Fredette and several small hot win streaks behind them as the hold a 33-27 record. Of course, there is also the presence of Joakim Noah. Head coach Tom Thibodeau has been confident in the abilities of Noah and the rest of the team to pick up the slack left with Rose’s injury. Noah immediately took the challenge and has been playing one of his best seasons to date. Noah just made his second All-Star game and has become a major offensive threat. In the last month he has had two triple doubles and many believe he’s playing MVP level basketball.
