So how long has it been since we gave something away to those of you who follow our blog, twitter, newsletter and Facebook feeds? We know, we know. Clearly too long. There’s a new opportunity in the works, though, along the same lines as the Scavenger Hunt we did last August, so watch for more news on that!
Also – we posted this on Facebook, but it bears repeating here as well: If you’re holding tickets for an event that’s been impacted by the recent snowstorms in much of the country, do NOT throw those tickets away! You may need them to obtain refunds, and if the show is rescheduled, you’ll almost certainly need those tickets to get in to the new show.
Called “the hottest artist on the classical music planet” by the New York Times, Chinese pianist Lang Lang is a figure you may not have heard of, but should. He’s been listed in Time Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and Lang Lang’s performance in the opening ceremony of Beijing’s Olympic games in 2008 inspired so many children to play classical piano that the Today Show gave it a name: “the Lang Lang effect.”
He will be playing several shows this year overseas, but US concertgoers have two opportunities to catch him live if they work fast: he’s playing tomorrow night (Jan 29) in Buffalo, NY, and on Jan 31 in Raleigh, NC.
If you miss those, he’ll be in California in July, but that’s half a year away. So catch him while you can!
And just like that, the 2011 Coachella lineup is announced, featuring exciting names like Arcade Fire, Lauren Hill, the Strokes, Cage the Elephant, Duran Duran, Chemical Brothers, Paul Van Dyk, Kanye West, Erykah Badu, Flogging Molly, and many more!
Coast to Coast has 3-day passes here, as well as individual day passes, so be sure to set aside April 15-17, 2011 for the most fantastic weekend you’ll ever spend in the California desert.
Want to see more bands playing at this year’s Coachella? The list is a long one:
A sad note for saxophone fans, as Gerry Rafferty, best known for his iconic song “Baker Street,” has passed away at the age of 63. Younger fans unfamiliar with Baker Street may recognize his song “Stuck in the Middle With You” by Gerry Rafferty’s band Stealer’s Wheel (the song was originally a giant hit in 1972, but Quentin Tarantino gave it new life by featuring it in the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack).
Also – if for some reason you haven’t heard Baker’s Street, take a minute now. It’s worth it.
This morning, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has announced their newest inductees into the acclaimed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Each inductee was chosen by more than 500 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, and became eligible for the recognition 25 years after the release of their first recording. President and CEO Joel Peresman said today of the five newest members, “They truly represent the variety of people that have defined and continue to influence music and the business of Rock and Roll.”
What do you think? Did the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation get it right? Myriad voices on twitter seem to think Jon Bon Jovi was deserving of the spot, but it would seem the voters spoke otherwise. Maybe next year? Regardless, a big congratulations to the newest artists on the list!

Looks like Justin Bieber’s Sunday, 8/29 performance, which was rescheduled for Wednesday, 9/1, will go on Wednesday as planned, much to the relief of everyone who moved their schedules to get back to the State Fair three days later!
From the NY State Fair website:
“The Fair was notified Saturday during the grandstand concert that, due to an illness, Justin Bieber has re-scheduled his Sunday, Aug. 29 concert at the New York State Fair to Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 7pm.
As a result, promoters for Justin Bieber have had to reschedule the Verizon Wireless Arena show in Manchester, New Hampshire, which was scheduled for Wednesday, Sept 1. That show will be moved to Thursday, Dec. 9 in order to accommodate re-schedule the Fair date.
The Fair will honor all tickets issued for Sunday’s show for the new date on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Any ticket that cannot be used should be returned to the point of sale for a refund prior to Wednesday’s show. The refunds will be processed at 10 am Sunday morning.”
