Broadway Theater Upcoming Shows

This week, the team behind the highly anticipated Broadway production of On the Town, made a major announcement about the upcoming plans for the production. The team revealed that the three lead roles for the production have been cast, with Tony Yazbeck, Jay Armstrong Johnson and Clyde Alves in the head roles. The three seasoned actors will be playing three sailors on a day-long excursion to New York City. The Broadway revival will feature the original iconic music featured in the production and will be held at the Lyric Theatre. The show will be celebrating its 70th anniversary with this new production and will be directed by Tony award winning director John Rando. Previews for the play will officially begin on September 20th at the former Foxwoods theatre. The official opening of the production will be on October 16th. Broadway May News

This week, there were several big announcements about hit Broadway productions. Tickets are now on sale to see the new much talked about play called The City of Conversation. The play, which starts in 1979 in Washington D.C., spans over 30 years and six presidents. The production features five time Tony nominee Jan Maxwell as Hester Ferris, and an all star supporting cast. The play is now open to the public and is being performed at the Lincoln Center Theater. Tickets are available to those looking to see this unique production unfold live.

Another new much talked about production just revealed plans for its official opening as the team behind Up Here just announced their official debut. The new musical was written by Academy Award winning songwriters Robert Lopex and Kristen Anderson- Lopez, the same team behind the hit Academy Award winning movie “Frozen.” The play will officially open in 2015 at La Jolla Playhouse. The show will be directed by two-time Tony nominee Alex Timbers. The play has been described as a romantic comedy with a ‘theatrical twist.” Lopez, who has also won Tony Awards for The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q, has been planning his vision for the production for the past five years. Tickets are expected to go on sale at the end of this year.

Spring Time Theater Time

This week, there were several major announcements regarding big Broadway and touring productions. Theater fans will be delighted to hear that these productions will officially be opening to the public, just in time for spring. One of the first big announcements came regarding the new national tour for the production Dirty Dancing. This production is an adaptation of the 1987 hit film of the same name. The show will be launching its national tour this summer, starting with a show in Washington, D.C. The show will be premiering at The National Theatre on August 26th before touring across the country to 30 different markets in North America. Stops along the way include shows in Houston, Boston, Seattle and Ottawa. No other information on the tour has been revealed at this point. Tickets are expected to go on sale next month to the public.

Pitbull and Enrique Iglesias Tour and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella

This week it was revealed that pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen and television star Fran Drescher would be extending their Broadway run on the show Cinderella. The popular musical has been a breakout hit and now the show will extend its run through June 8th with both actresses. Originally the two women had agreed to continue shows throughout the end of the month, however they will both be extending their Broadway debuts and continue with their roles in the play. Jepsen plays the title character and Dresler player were wicked stepmother. In June, both will be taking time off from the show to attend previously scheduled engagements. This Rodgers and Hammerstein’s version of the tale has been hailed on Broadway since its debut for its comedic take on the classic tale. Tickets are on sale now and available to the public for those who want to see the two actresses in Cinderella this spring or summer.

Christmas Time Equals Broadway Time

With Christmas week right around the corner, Broadway has unveiled some exciting news about their upcoming live performance schedule. There are several irregular schedules and new performances that will be taking place this week and several shows that are getting special performance times specifically for the holiday. The live production of The Lion King is always a popular holiday show and during the holiday season. This family friendly show will be one of the few productions that will take place on Christmas Eve. Those who are looking
to take the whole family to a show on Christmas Eve will find that The Lion King still has tickets available for this show. On Christmas day, there will only be a few shows playing for theatre goers, but there are still tickets available for the Christmas shows that will have performances on this day. The live production of Wicked The Musical will be performing on Christmas with an evening show and tickets are still available to see this production on Christmas night. On Christmas evening, there will also be performances of Rock of Ages, Pippin and Phantom of the Opera. Tickets for all of these shows are still available for their Christmas and Christmas Eve showings.

Broadway November Update

This week, there were a few big announcements that have had theatre fans excited for the upcoming Broadway schedule. One of the biggest announcements of the week came from the team behind the musical event Bullets Over Broadway. This new play was written by iconic Hollywood director, Woody Allen. The play is based on the screenplay of the same name written by Allen and Douglas McGrath. The production currently wrapped up a special box office opening event this week and tickets to see the performance unfold live are now available. The official previews for the play will be held on March 11th, 2014 at the St. James Theatre. After this preview, the show will officially open on Broadway. This new play is expected to be one of the biggest productions of the 2014 Broadway season. This week, there were several big announcements regarding some upcoming live theatrical performances. One of the biggest announcements of the week came regarding the play Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. This Broadway production is officially set to hit the stage on November 21st at Stephen Sondheim Theatre. This Broadway musical spectacular will be featuring the talents of Jessie Mueller who will be playing Grammy Award winning singer Carole King in the show. The production will also feature performances from Jake Epstein, Anika Larsen and Jarrod Spector. The score of this production features several songs that King herself penned. Those who are looking to see this biographical production unfold live will find that tickets are on sale now and available to the public.

Another big live production that is getting the attention of theatre fans is a show by the name of The Commons of Pensacola. This play is a family drama that was written by actress Amanda Peet. The production features several big name performers including Michael Stahl-David, Ali Marsh, Blyth Danner and Sarah Jessica Parker. This funny take on family drama has already received positive reviews for its unique take on the traditional family story. The play has just entered into its previews and it will officially be opening on the Broadway stage on November 21st. Broadway Update

This week, big news about several upcoming Broadway productions were unveiled to the public, beginning with an announcement about the upcoming musical Motown, which is set to hit the Broadway stage later on this month. Previews for the production officially began this week, and audiences have already been singing and dancing in the aisles as this musical, filled with some of the biggest Motown hits in history, takes the stage. After much anticipation about the production was built over months of waiting, previews are now officially being shown for the event and tickets are on sale to see these previews live. As for regular tickets to the production, those will go on sale to the public in Mid-May for those who want to see Motown the Musical when it officially debuts on the Broadway stage.

There was also major news released this week about the upcoming production of The Cripple of Inishmann. The production is slated to be a West End performance and has already gotten a great deal of attention from critics and Broadway fans alike who are anxiously awaiting its release. This week it was revealed that Daniel Radcliffe, made famous from the Harry Potter movies would be cast in the production and that the official opening day for the performance would be June 8th. This week, the world of Broadway was treated to the triumphant return of one of the most praised live musical productions when Picinic made its return to the stage. The play re-opened on Broadway on December 14th after it was announced earlier in the season that Picnic would return to oBroadway due to popular demand.  This drama about a small-town community looking to see beyond the confines of their town and to the world beyond their home when an out-of-town stranger arrives to their community. The dramatic play already had a successful Broadway run and is returning once again after a tour across the country. The play, inspired by the Pulitzer-Prize winning book from William Ingle is once again playing live on Broadway and tickets are currently available for those looking to see the production live.

This week the city of New York will be treated to a unique opportunity to buy tickets to one of the biggest events to come to the Big Apple in Years.  Cirque Du Soleil Totem, the new live Cirque show is coming to New York City next spring and tickets to the event will start going on sale beginning on November 20th for members of the Cirque Club and to the general public on November 30th. Cirque du Soleli is the most popular live production of its type in today’s live performance world and the performance Totem has already been performed in front of 2 million audience members. Finally, after years of waiting, the live Cirque du Soleli production will finally be making its way to New York City.
