This week, big news about several upcoming Broadway productions were unveiled to the public, beginning with an announcement about the upcoming musical Motown, which is set to hit the Broadway stage later on this month. Previews for the production officially began this week, and audiences have already been singing and dancing in the aisles as this musical, filled with some of the biggest Motown hits in history, takes the stage. After much anticipation about the production was built over months of waiting, previews are now officially being shown for the event and tickets are on sale to see these previews live. As for regular tickets to the production, those will go on sale to the public in Mid-May for those who want to see Motown the Musical when it officially debuts on the Broadway stage.
There was also major news released this week about the upcoming production of The Cripple of Inishmann. The production is slated to be a West End performance and has already gotten a great deal of attention from critics and Broadway fans alike who are anxiously awaiting its release. This week it was revealed that Daniel Radcliffe, made famous from the Harry Potter movies would be cast in the production and that the official opening day for the performance would be June 8th. Tickets are expected to go on sale next month to see this Miachel Grandage-directed production.
While many are excited about the upcoming production of The Cripple of Inishmann, even more are talking about the play that was just released to the public: Matilda. After months of waiting for the US production, Matilda has finally made its Broadway debut and tickets are now on sale and available to the public. The production, which is based on the book by Roald Dahl, debuted to outstanding critical reception and strong ticket sales. The plat officially debuted this week after months of waiting from fans. This week, the world of Broadway was treated to the triumphant return of one of the most praised live musical productions when Picinic made its return to the stage. The play re-opened on Broadway on December 14th after it was announced earlier in the season that Picnic would return to oBroadway due to popular demand. This drama about a small-town community looking to see beyond the confines of their town and to the world beyond their home when an out-of-town stranger arrives to their community. The dramatic play already had a successful Broadway run and is returning once again after a tour across the country. The play, inspired by the Pulitzer-Prize winning book from William Ingle is once again playing live on Broadway and tickets are currently available for those looking to see the production live.
Those who are looking for a live Broadway experience beyond the streets of New York City will also be able to catch an award winning production when The Book of Mormon heads out on the road. Additional tour dates were announced for the production which will be visiting venues around the country into 2013. This week the city of New York will be treated to a unique opportunity to buy tickets to one of the biggest events to come to the Big Apple in Years. Cirque Du Soleil Totem, the new live Cirque show is coming to New York City next spring and tickets to the event will start going on sale beginning on November 20th for members of the Cirque Club and to the general public on November 30th. Cirque du Soleli is the most popular live production of its type in today’s live performance world and the performance Totem has already been performed in front of 2 million audience members. Finally, after years of waiting, the live Cirque du Soleli production will finally be making its way to New York City. Those who want to get tickets to see the production while it is in New York City will want to act very quickly as these productions are known for being some of the fastest selling live performances on the planet.
This wasn’t the only big announcement to hit the Broadway this week. Hip hop fans were given a treat this week when it was revealed that Grammy winning performer; R. Kelly will be bringing his multi-part hit musical “Trapped in the Closet’ to the Broadway stage. This week has been a big week in terms of announcements for family-friendly Broadway productions; meaning there are plenty of new opportunities for the whole family to get together and see a show; just in time for the holidays.This week, the world’s most loved little orphan will be making her on stage debut for a new generation of fans as the live production of Annie premiers of Broadway. The 1977 show is getting a new re-boot with a promising and exciting cast, in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the original production. The new highly anticipated performances from Annie will also make an appearance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The new Annie will be staged at the Palace Theatre on Broadway will premier on November 8th. Tickets to all of the production’s new performances are now on sale and available to the public.
While the debut of this childhood classic has had many fans of Annie and theatre fans alike excited for the new production, another big announcement was made this week regarding another childhood tale. As many have found that the return of the normal Broadway show schedule is still being halted due to the after effects of Hurricane Sandy, others are focusing their attention to the Broadway productions that will be hitting the stage next season, as fans around the country are starting to get a preview of some of the most anticipated plays of the 2013 season. One of these plays is the unique production of I Love Lucy, a play that has been designed to reveal a behind the scenes look at the creation and filming of the beloved television shows put on by Lucille Ball and her husband Desi Arnez. This production, which is currently stationed in Chicago and the Chicago Theatre for two weeks, has many talking about this unique take on the classic television show. Those looking to see the show before it settles in New York next year can catch the production now in Chicago, where tickets are still on sale.

Fans of professional sports, particularly hockey were left with a sour taste in their mouth this week, after the NHL made a very disappointing announcement for fans. After many expected that the NHL would truly return in the beginning of November and with games slated for November 1st, the NHL recently announced that they would be canceling even more games in the season. Currently the entire schedule for the month of November has been cancelled until further notice.
While sports fans may be reeling from this recent, announcement there is plenty in the world of entertainment to keep those around the country entertained until the return of hockey. Unfortunately, for many of those living on the East coast, looking to attend Broadway performances, many of the shows in New York have been cancelled through the 31st of October or until further notice due to the effects of hurricane Sandy and the many without power. However, once Broadway productions do start resuming as normal, fans looking to get into the holiday spirit can enjoy special performances of the live adaptation of “A Christmas Story” for which dates have officially been announced. The production will begin next week on November 5th and run through December 30th of 2012. Tickets are now officially on sale.
After her wildly successful release of her album RED, Taylor Swift made an announcement this week revealing she will be taking the road early next year to support her fourth studio album. The country crooner also announced the locations for this tour which will kick off in Omaha, Nebraska on March 13th, 2012. Over the weekend , there were several big announcements in the music world in terms of upcoming tours and ticket sales. The first big weekend announcement came from the legendary jam band the Dave Matthews Band, who revealed they would be heading out on a Winter Tour that will take them to massive stadiums around the country and up close with fans. Tickets for the event are now on sale for the public. Another rock band, Maroon 5, also made their own tour announcement over the weekend, revealing they would be heading out on the road on their own 2013 tour. The band will be joined by Owl City and the Neon Trees in a tour that will take them across North America. The tour will go from February to April and will be the band’s biggest tour to date, tickets will officially be on sale as of October 27th.
While rock fans will have two big concerts to look forward to, a group with a different approach to ‘rock’ music made their own announcement this weekend. The legendary group the Radio City Rockettes officially announced their schedule for the holiday season. This will be the 85th season for the show and will officially begin in New York on 9th. Those who want to see the Rockettes live will be able to see the performance through the holiday season.
Down the road from the Radio City Music Hall are the streets of Broadway, where those who are looking for a different type of live show will have plenty of opportunities during the holiday season. As many new shows prepare to find their permanent home on Broadway beginning in November, one of the most anticipated shows in the country, the revival of “Glengarry Glen Ross,” is on the top of the list for many. Preview performances for the production began this week and tickets are now on sale for the official opening of the play which will be on November 11th. The play is a revival of the classic Broadway production and will feature legendary actor Al Pacino live on stage. The actor will be returning to play, which is in its third revival, and will take on the role of Shelly Levine.
