The theatrical world received a big treat this week when the play Water by the Spoonful hit the NYC stage this week. This play was written by Quiara Alegria Hudes and was the 2012 Pulitzer Prize winner in the drama category. This much talked about drama covering topics like addiction, recovery, family and military has captured the hearts of many already and will be hitting the Second Stage Theatre in NYC this week for live performances. Tickets are now on sale to see this much talked about production live.

While this low key performance will have many inspired, a much larger scale production is taking place down the street in New York City at Madison Square Garden. Tickets are currently on sale and productions are in full swing for the How the Grinch Stole Christmas Live production. The live musical event will feature famed actor Jeff McCarthy as the Grinch and the play will feature the classic music from the major motion picture. This event will be held in the massive Madison Square Garden arena in New York City and is expected to sell out night after night as thousands of families come to get in the holiday spirit and see this production live. Tickets are still on sale for a few performances that will run through December 30th.

One of the biggest announcements of the week however came from the when it was revealed that the Broadway League would be participating in show for Kids’ Night on Broadway. This annual event was designed to help kids and families get more involved in the world of Broadway and to experience all that live theatre has to offer. The recent announcement about the Kids’ Night on Broadway revealed that the event will take place from February 25th through March 3rd. During this time productions such as Annie, Drood, Once, Newsies, Cinderella and Spiderman will be participating as well as a few off-Broadway shows. SnowGlobe Festival 2012 Plus

Now that the Thanksgiving holiday has passed, this week the music world was given a big treat for the holidays as the dates and lineup for an outstanding new musical event were revealed this week. This event is known as SnowGlobe Festival 2012 and it will run from December 29-31 in South Lake Tahoe, California. The event will feature over 40 acts that will all be scheduled in between other events during the long weekend. The event will be headlined by Dadmau5 and Wiz Khalifa. Tickets are on sale now and expected to sell out quickly so those who want to see the event live will not want to wait.

Another big announcement came from an entertainer of a different breed this week, when the legendary master of horror, Stephen King, made an announcement to the public. Starting this week, on November 24th, the author will be entertaining audiences with a new medium when a new stage version of the Stephen King novel Misery hits the stage. The stage adaptation will feature the work of Academy Award winner William Goldman who will be taking the story from the 1990 film adaptation and transforming it for the stage. The new production is now playing live at Bucks County Playhouse and fans of the author and of the original film will not want to miss the opportunity to see this unique performance live on the stage. For those who are looking for a less-frightening live performance event to attend, there is the highly anticipated debut of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. The company behind the new Broadway play released a statement this week revealing that the casting for the play has been complete and that previews for the production would be beginning on January 24, 2013. The play will then officially open on February 24th, 2012. The production will feature a new twist as it will be Cinderella’s turn to rescue the prince in this live musical event that is designed to be fun for the whole family. Tickets to see the preview performances of Cinderella are not available to the public and tickets for the live shows, beginning in February of next year are slated to go on sale soon. This week has been a big week in terms of announcements for family-friendly Broadway productions; meaning there are plenty of new opportunities for the whole family to get together and see a show; just in time for the holidays.This week, the world’s most loved little orphan will be making her on stage debut for a new generation of fans as the live production of Annie premiers of Broadway. The 1977 show is getting a new re-boot with a promising and exciting cast, in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the original production. The new highly anticipated performances from Annie will also make an appearance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The new Annie will be staged at the Palace Theatre on Broadway will premier on November 8th. Tickets to all of the production’s new performances are now on sale and available to the public.

While the debut of this childhood classic has had many fans of Annie and theatre fans alike excited for the new production, another big announcement was made this week regarding another childhood tale. New shows are now being added to the Broadway production of Mary Poppins.
