This week the world of entertainment has been focused on the holiday season; with many of the biggest touring acts in music right now taking a break to enjoy the holidays at home. While most musical acts took a few days off from their tours before gearing up for touring action in 2013; the theatrical world was a buzz this holiday season with hit live theater musicals about the holidays from A Christmas Story to Elf and How the Grinch Stole Christmas are all heading into their final week of performances before the holiday season comes to a close. Most of these Broadway productions are only slated to play through the first of the year, so fans will want to get their tickets now before these plays close until next holiday season.

While there has been minimal news from the music and theater world around the holiday season, the professional sports world has been in full swing. With regular season NBA games lasting through the holidays; there has been plenty of basketball action to keep fans excited. With the New Year approaching it also means that more of the big bowl games on on the horizon. With several bowl games already played, some of the biggest ones yet, including the Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and the BCS National Championship are all set to kick off around the New Year. Tickets are still available for college football fans who want to get in on all of this action during bowl season.

Meanwhile, many sports fans have their eyes set of the NFL as the professional football league inches closet to playoff time. With the last weekend of the regular season of the NFL approaches and with many teams battling not only for a playoff appearance but for home field advantages and seeding this week, fans of the NFL can expect all types of action in the upcoming week. Furthermore, the last week of the regular season also means that NFL playoff tickets are on the horizon and that after next week fans looking to see their favorite teams take the field in the playoffs will be able to get tickets to see the playoffs live. Since most playoff locations are determined by the rank and seeding of the teams still left in play; most playoff spots will not be revealed until next week; when fans will be able to buy tickets to see their favorite teams play. Holiday Excitement

Even though the holidays are fast approaching, and many are ready to start enjoying their holiday breaks, the world of entertainment is still in full force and several big announcements were revealed from the entertainment world today. One of the first announcements came just in time for the holiday season as the professionals behind Madison Square Garden in new York City announced that on December 13th they would officially begin performances of the highly anticipated holiday production of Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This is a limited time performance of the production and it will last through December 30th. With impressive pre-show ticket sales already through the roof, those who want tickets to see the production live will not want to wait as even the massive Madison Square Garden will not be able to hold all the fans that want to see this production live.

While happy, holiday centered news came from the streets of New York City, a more somber announcement was released this week for professional hockey fans. As millions of hockey fans from all over the country waited patiently for the return of the NHL hockey season with high hopes that they would be an early Christmas present with the announcement of the return of the NHL season; it was revealed today that the NHL lockout would continue. The league released an official announcement saying that games through December 30th would be cancelled as a result of new CBA results. There is no word on whether or not the league has plans for the season to return after the holidays or not.

While these two announcements have had fans of all types buzzing, there are very few announcements that have surpassed the buzz surrounded by the reveal from Justin Bieber this week. The teenage music icon officially announced 30 new concert tour dates for his 2013 nation-wide tour. The already sold out tour will be adding the stops to stretch the tour out through August of 2013. Those who want Justin Bieber tickets will be able to get tickets to the first 21 new shows on Friday December 15th while tickets to the remaining nine additional summer shows will go on sale Friday December 21st. These tickets are sure to sell out as fast as the rest of the concert tickets did; will you be getting yours?

Winter Holiday Time

With the Thanksgiving holiday officially over with for the year, it’s time for the Broadway world to get in the Christmas spirit. Based on the recent announcements of the week, the city of New York is ready for the holidays and already in the Christmas Spirit. One of the most notable Christmas productions to kick off this holiday season is A Christmas Story The Musical. The play is based off the hit 1983 hit film of the same night. As one of the most popular Christmas movies of all times has officially launched on the Broadway stage as of this week and will run through the 30th of December. Tickets to see the musical adaptation of this comedic holiday tale are now available to the public.

Those looking for another opportunity to see a comedic take on the holiday season, will want to check out another movie to musical adaptation with the Broadway production of Elf. This Broadway show is based off the hit Will Ferrell comedy of the same name and follows the story of Buddy the Elf; an orphan human who grows up thinking he is an elf until he travels to New York City in search of his biological father. This production is now running at Al Hirschfield Theatre and will run through January 6th so those who want tickets to this family-friendly musical experience.

Another family-friendly production for theatre-goers to consider is Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical. The Broadway will be performing at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden and will feature the tale told in the beloved original children’s book. The production announced this week that tickets are now officially on sale for the 2012 play show times. However, the show will only run from December 13th-December 30th so those who are looking to see the production live will want to act quickly when getting their tickets.

Broadway holiday productions aren’t all centered on the Christmas holiday thanks in large part to Jackie Hoffman’s A Chanukah Charol. This much talked-about Broadway production makes a major twist to the classic Christmas tale and features the work of Jackie Hoffman in a play that is described as a pseudo-autobiographical one-woman show. With the holiday season in full swing, theatre goers will have plenty of opportunities not only to see some of the biggest classic and long running productions that can bring fans of the theatre and families together, but they can also see a number of special holiday-themed productions as well. One of these productions is the Old Globe’ Grinch. This is the 15th annual production of this San Diego live theatrical show and it will feature talents such as Steve Blanchard, Steve Gunderson and Jason Edward Cook. This musical which features the classic Dr. Seuss tale, over the top costumes and wonderful musical selections will open November 23rd. Tickets are on sale now and those who wish to see the performance live can expect to find show times running through the holiday season. Since production numbers are limited those who want to see the Grinch will want to make sure they get their tickets quickly as they won’t have an opportunity to see the production again until next holiday season.

Meanwhile, while theater fans can go see Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! to hear the tale of the villainous Grinch and his attempt to steal Christmas; theater fans can go see the new production of Elf in order to take a completely different approach to getting in the holiday spirit. The hit production, based off the wildly successful major motion picture, features the story of Buddy the Elf and his attempt to spread Christmas cheer to those in New York City and around the world who have lost sight of the Christmas spirit. This production is also a seasonal play and has now opened on the Broadway stage.

However, those who want to see Elf live this year will be given a special treat. The brilliant minds behind this production announced this week that there would be a new over the top opening number in the production featuring an original song called “Happy All the Time” this is just one of the many additions being included in the 2012-2013 productions of Elf and one of the many ways in which this play is slated to be even more spectacular this holiday season. Those who want to see the newly revamped Elf can get their tickets to the event now; which will run through the New Year.
