In the world of live theatre; several big ticket announcements were revealed this week that are sure to have theatre-goers on the edges of their seats. Tickets are now on sale for those who are looking to see preview of the highly anticipated production of Cinderella on Broadway. This live event, from Rodgers and Hammersteins has been one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for Broadway goers. Previews for the show will begin next week on January 25th for those looking to see the event live.

While a new show will begin next week; another hit show will end its current Broadway run before heading on the road for a nationwide tour. Those who are looking to see the live performance of Evita starring Ricky Martin before it leaves the Broadway stage forever will be able to get tickets to see the final week of performances next week. The final production will take place on January 26th. Meanwhile next week will also be the official industry reading event of the upcoming musical The Protagonists. Theatre fans will be able to get tickets to the event to see a number of industry stars reading the script live for the first time. Readers will include Alice Ripley, Marc Kudisch, Douglas Sills, Rick Holmes and more.

There is even more for theatre fans to look forward to next week thanks to a recent Broadway ticketing announcement. One of the biggest announcements came regarding the upcoming Broadway production of the award-winning Matilda The Musical. The production, which has already found a great deal of success overseas, is already schedules to open with previews on March 4th at the Shubert Theatre in Manhattan. While many are anxiously awaiting the chance to see Matilda the Musical live; the ticket office from the Shubert Theatre announced this week that tickets will officially go on sale on January 21st. There has been a great deal of speculation regarding when tickets to see the production, based on the children’s book would go on sale. The theatre world has been treated to a number of big announcements this week that have had Broadway fans of all types anxiously awaiting several big upcoming performances. At the top of everyone’s list for 2013 performances is the highly anticipated new remake of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof; the Tennesse Williams classic will feature a new Broadway stay beginning in January 2013 and will feature award winning actress Scarlette Johnasson. However, while many are anxiously awaiting this large scale production, other theatre fans have been focusing their attention elsewhere.

Many have been anxiously awaiting the upcoming United States version of the hit live musical Matilda. The musical rendition of this famed children’s book and family movie has already found a great deal of success in London and a new Broadway production is slated to appear in the United States in 2013. While the buzz surrounding Matilda the Musical has been high, there has been very little casting news until this week when it was revealed the Oliver Award winner Lesli Margherita would be joining Gabriel Ebert, Lauren Ward and Karen Alridge in the leading roles of this musical. It was also revealed that the production is officially set to open on March 4th of 2013 and that it will premiere at the Shubert Theatre on Broadway. Tickets for the event will be going on sale next month.

While Broadway is making room for the 2013 premier of Matilda; live theatre fans in Chicago just received big news this week when The Book of Mormon; the Tony Award winning hit musical began its extended stay in the Windy City this week. The production began shows on December 19th at the Bank of America Theatre. The production is scheduled to continue through June of 2013; but those who want to see Book of Mormon in Chicago will want to act quickly as tickets are already sold out through March of 2013.

The rock music world was also delivered with a surprise treat this week when the famed punk rock band the Deftones announced they would be hitting the road for a 2013 tour beginning in the spring of next year. The hard-rock veterans are set to tour around the United States to multiple large venues through most of next year as they promote their new album “Koi No Yokan.” Tickets will be on sale next month to the public; will you be seeing the Deftones live on the road?
